3 wheelers were banned in our area a while back, and I believe it was because of stability issues. Sharp turns on a 3 wheeler are very dangerous because the forward momentum is not cancelled. Riders are prone to 'shoulder rolls' as the bike turns in one direction but the rider is still moving forward. 4 wheelers can still roll over, but the front wheels provide a lot more stability during sharp turns.

ON a scale of 1 to ten, with ten being the worst...3 Wheelers rate an eleven. Some states have out law ed them.

While this may be true for someone who has never ridden one or put any serious seat time on a trike - it is far from the truth. Once you know HOW to ride one - they are no more dangerous than a 4 wheeler. It just takes more work and skill to make them do what you want them to. Driver input - something that weekend warrior 4 wheeler owners don't know anything about. Turn the handle bars on a quad and they go that way. Trikes take body english - once you know what you are doing I find them much more "flickable" and manuverable than any quad. Also - they have the obvious HUGE lighter weight advantage.

Also - I'd love to see you back up that some states have out-lawed them! They are perfectly legal everywhere! It was an Import ban that was placed on 5 ATV manufacturers in 1986 that stopped their production. The "consent decree" expired in 1996 - and if a manufacturer wanted to (obviously there is no market for them anymore) it would be 100% legal to start making them again.
