Default Do all-terrain vehicles actually cause that much damage to forests and streams?

When ATVs or off-road motorcycles go off from a trail, what's the big deal? Why do the wardens/rangers want to keep you out of the water?

because all mechanical engines leak oil or gasoline, and this could cause harm to the fish that live in the streams and animals that drink from them. not to mention the humans that may eat the animals that drink from the stream.
