Default 4x2 or 4x4 four wheeler?

I am looking to purchase a four wheeler in the next couple of weeks...I plan on mostly doing a lot of trail riding and some light muddin. I have been told I can get ** with a 4x2. Preferably I would like a selectable 4x4 but the prices on those are more than I want to pay...at the same time I kind of feel like whats the point of a four wheeler if its not 4x4. Right now the top four wheeler on my list is a TRX350 Rancher TRX (4x2). Basically I want to know how much fun I could expect to have in the mud with a 4x2 with some upgraded mud tires...keep in mind, I'm not trying to cross any streams, rivers or anything like that.

go with 4x4. yes its more expensive and eat gas more..but
4x4 can gives more traction when ascending a trail or when riding on the mud.
And your feeling "what's the point of four wheeler if it's not 4x4" is true,IMO.
I nick named a 4x2 suv as "sissy suv."
