atv starter?

i have a 85 yamaha reverse 200 ( yfm200) and when i press the electrical starter i just hear the sound of the starter going but no motor starting. the battery is charged and connected correctly

I know it sounds old fashion but hit your starter with a hammer. Starters not only have to turn but they have to extend out for contact. Yours may be turning but not extending. Sometimes a few hits will release it. DON'T hit it while your starting it. That may be unsafe. Hit it than try to start it. If all else fails, Call a repair shop.
