I have never understood how it works do u have to shift at all and why is the clutch still on some

We have a Honda Rancher ES350 with an automatic. You still shift the gear with a switch but no clutch! Personally, I don't like the reverse set up in the thing! I'd rather have the Artic Cat setup!
