What ATV to get?

I will be riding a mix of 45% Mountian trails, 45% desert (open dirt), and 10% sand dunes. 8 months are sunny and warm, 4 are snowy. Half the people I ride with have dirtbikes, and the other half are split between sports/utility quads.

Should I get a sports quad or a utility quad?
and what Make/models are the best?
