Default Ticketed for riding a four wheeler- trespassing and no registration on vehicle. Legal?

I was riding my four wheeler on private property, owned ** someone i know (i had permission). We approached the end of the woods, saw a housing development, and turned around.
Long story short, someone called the cops, and i ended up recieving two tickets; one for criminal trespassing, even though we were probably only over the line ** 10 feet (We didn't really know where we were going.. huge woods, and a second for not having registration on the atv.
This happened in North Royalton, Ohio. The officer said that they had just created a law about thirty days ago, stating that registration MUST be carried on the atv at ALL TIMES, even when on private property. Which i find rediculous.
A. if this is a new law, it's rather unfortunate that i didn't know about it.
B. The ATV is registered with the state, it has a title, but i have never heard about needing registration on PRIVATE PROPERTY.

Is there any way i can get out of this? I'm 17, i have to go to juvenille court on the ninth.

as the two people above me have already stated, its YOUR responsibility to keep up with new laws etc.
you have already admitted in a public forum to being guilty,so when you go to court, plead "guilty with an explantion",and if the judge accepts that plea, explain what happened,he/she may or may not cut you a break, but its worth a shot. I will tell you this though,ANY hint of a poor attitude towards the court,WILL get you maximum fines.

A) Not knowing about a law does not excuse you from violating it. B) almost the same as A so if it is law that you carry the registration with you, you are guilty. You won't win this one in court.

You are required to familiarize yourself with the laws before riding an ATV, even if you are in another state. For this reason, the argument that you did not know is not an automatic defense in court.

It is also your responsibility to know where you are, and to be sure you do not enter someone else's property, regardless of how slight it may be.

However, the prosecutor and the judge have a lot of discretion. Although they are under no legal obligation to do so, they may take your explanation into consideration.
