I want to buy an ATV but the owner said he has no paperwork but it did or does belong to him.?

He said that he bought it brand new and got it financed but after less than a year he stopped payment. He said Honda never tried to repo the ATV but only wanted the total balance due. Is it ok to purchase this ATV?
