I rented my ATV out to some folks and they mistakenly rode the ATV ( Polaris SPortsman 500) in LOW gear the whole ride and went up to speeds of 15 mph. Is this very bad for the ATV? Will it cause future problems? And they also mistakenly shifted from LOW to HIGH gear while going about 10mph. Should this cause potential problems for the ATV? Thank you!

not shifting and riding in high revs won't hurt the tranny but not to great on the engine which with my experaince with polaris sportsmans you really don't want to do, they need to be babied I've had nothing but problems with the sportsmans so I quit buying polaris atvs altogether. What'd I'd do is look at the tranny and the fluid make sure there is no metal flakes in the oil from gears grinding and change all the fluids. Doing it a few times probably didn't do much damage, next time if you plan on renting atv's get an auto.
