Charging a 12V ATV battery with charger.?

Charging a 12V ATV battery with charger.?

I borrowed my bosses charger the other day to charge my 12V ATV battery I took the battery out and connected + to + and - to - when I went to select the amperage to charge the battery all the charger did was fault out. Why is this?
