I have a 96 honda four wheeler and I started it and put it into reverse, now I can't remember how to get it in?

neutral so I can start it back. please help, my manual is lost. I have tried the foot pedal up and down and there is a red rev. button that you can push down but nothin works. help!!!! fast!!!!!!!!
I got it out of reverse, had to hand pull it hard to get the gear out.
