Default goldwing starting problems?

I have a 1984 gl1200 aspencade and am having problems with her, namely hard to start in mornings even when batt shows full but after work starts first time. Have to use batt off my other bike to jump it, then starts fine and when warm rides like a dream. But when I try to start the bike when its hot it refuses to start and drains the battery on first push of the starter.If I leave it till it cools down it starts ok. Its got to the stage that I carry my other batt and jump leads with me all the time now. any help will be greatly appreciatted

I mostly agree with the other guy, your battery may be damaged and not putting out enough cranking amps.

Another thing to check is the oil level. If the oil level is too low, then you may have trouble starting your bike because there isn't lubrication at the starter clutch. Well, I don't know about the goldwing, but that's sure the case on my bike (Yamah Virago 700). If it's down a quart, it's not going to want to start.

Test the batt. if it reads less than 12.6 volts, it needs replacing.

The best motorcycle battery I have found is the YUASA Battery. It has 310 cold cranking amps, which is more than any other battery on the market.

You can order one from the link below.
They seem to be the cheapest online.

Try to check Your starter it might be that bearings are not good and rotor is getting in wrong position when You start it.

May need a new battery.
It might show full charge on your charger, but it might not have enough cranking amps to start your bike.
Bring your battery to a shop to have it "load" tested.
Or purchase a "hydrometer" from an auto parts store (it looks like an eve dropper and costs under $10).

It's nothing to do with volts it the batteries ability to provide current, so the battery might look fine on your voltmeter but is past it's best. I think that as it's happening when hot and cold it's almost certainly the battery and a 1200 is a hefty lump to crank over so a good battery is a must.

I usually only get 2-3 years out of my bike batteries and at 25 quid I consider it as easy to replace than spend huge amounts of time checking and charging.

My car battery failed this week (same symptoms as your bike) it cost me 75 pounds ($150) it had better last every day of 5 years!
