Headlight on gsxr 1000 goes out.?

My 02 gsxr 1000 has had a problem where the headlight would occasionally flicker. I ignored it, but now it will go out for long periods of time and sometimes not come back on (high or low beam). The only fix so far is to hit the top of the headlight. If it doesnt work just smack it right? Just kidding, but any ideas why it wont work. The bulbs are new.
