Default 1975 Honda CB500 T right side control

On the right hand controls there is a switch that slides left and right and is labeled "OFF" to the left and "ON" to the right.

Does anybody have a clue what it does? I have flipped it back and forth and cannot see that it does anything. Perhaps whatever it is suppose to do is not working.

I purchased a owners manual for a 1976 model not only does it not mentionb it, the picture of the control module does not even have this switch on it.

Thanks

It turns the headlight on & off.
Way back in the stone ages, it wasn't required ** law to keep the headlight on at all times.
The switch was there to turn the headlight off in the daylight hours.
Back then, some bikes had the on-off switch on the handlebars and some bikes had an extra position on the ignition switch that would turn the lights on.
