Side Stand for a 1979 Honda CB650?

I recently bought a Honda CB650 and I cannot put the stand down from the seated position on the motorcycle. My foot can not reach under the exhaust to where the kickstand is and therefore, I have to dismount the bike and balance it with one hand (its a heavy bike) and maneuver it without burning myself with the other hand. I was wondering if there is an easy solution to this problem. I have already tried the motorcycle graveyard and got a piece from a 1980 CB650 that should attach but doesn't work out.
