Hi everyone. Well, I just about a 2008 gsxr 750 about 2 months ago. Anyway, I wanted to know what parts I should lubricate after I wash it and with what? According to the owners manual, I’m suppose to use motor oil to lubricate the chain? Does that sound right? I’m not sure so I wanted to ask since this is my first bike and im not really sure how to take care of it yet. I know I have to lubricate the clutch and the gear shifter right? What do I use? Can I really use motor oil? I would really appreciate it if someone can tell exactly what to do to keep my bike running great. Thanks

I would just spray some chain wax (not lube since it flings off and makes a mess) and call it a day. As for lubing the cables, once every other year will be just fine. Worry more about changing the oil at 600 miles or whatever the manual says for the first one and do it again every 5000 miles or whatever the manual states. Also at your first change check every nut and bolt to see if anything has shaken loose or if the bike was setup perfectly from the shop/factory. These are good bikes and with a little maintenance (just as the book says) it will last you a very long time.

I wouldn't use motor oil for the chain because it flies off and makes a mess. There's good chain lubes out there in aerosol form that harden into grease and stay in place. When I had a chain drive bike, I really liked BelRay.

I would differ to some of the other posters who ride GSXR's - there are a couple here, but my suggestion would be to follow the owners manual. I would assume you have a warrenty of some sort on the bike, nothing will kill it (warrenty) faster than not following the manual.

I think you could do that but not too sure if its the best way. I just go to the dealer and buy those chain lubricate spray cans.. it's about $5-10.. btw come to the meet up group every thursday if you want.. lots of sport bikers here =)

HEY
STOP!!! DO NOT use motor oil, it will fling everywhere and you will have black, slimy road grime EVERYWHERE after a ride. Use a chain lube in an aerosol can, I recommend MOTUL and MUC OFF products. Whatever is at your dealer will suffice most likely also. Try to get something like a chain WAX instead of lube. White-wax type is what I use. |
