Default I am in the market for a Honda CBR 1000RR, but i can really only afford a used bike. What should i look for?

I really want to purchase a Honda CBR1000RR. But i am hesitant to purhcase just yet because i would have to buy used. And i just dont konw what to look for to make sure its a good bike. How do i know the bike was broken in correctly. How do i know that 91 octane fuel was run in it. Any advice is appreciated.

The most IMPORTANT thing is to make sure he has all service records. Then ask if he has ever laid the bike down, check tires, electrics, essentially go through your "t-clocs" inspection except with 10x the thoroughness. Also ask if the bike has been riden in the rain, and how he stored it (garaged or outside.) Try to see how much the seller rode it and what he rode it for (make sure he didnt use it for stunting or wheelies). Try to get a friend or somebody you know that is experienced with motorcycles and that could maybe look at the bike for you.

Hope that helps

There is no "real" way to tell if the bike has always been ran with 91 (or 93 where I live), or to tell if it was broken in correctly. There are only a few real things you can do when purchasing used. One, ask to see the service interval reports, to see if the full tune-up was done at about 500 or 600 miles, and then regularly after that. Two, do a good visual inspection of the bike for scratches, scuffs, bent items, to tell if the bike was laid down. ( A laid down bike is rarely worth messing with, in my opinion.) Also, ask to test ride the bike, most wont let you, but some will. If a test ride is no go, ask to be ridden on the bike, if still no, find a different one. A person hesitant to even ride you on it, is shady. And really after you do that, all you can go on, is the seller's character. A buddy of mine got an amazing deal on a GSX-R600 from a 40 year old guy that rode it less than 1700 miles in two years, had the records, and got a free Rocket helmet in the process. The same bike from a 19 year old wildcat might not be worth looking at. Thats what I would do, and be careful once you get it, litrebikes are nuts!!! Be safe, wear gear, and I'll see you on the road next season, mines heading up for the winter, getting a little too cold for our taste.
