What precautions should I take when I am selling a motorcycle?

I've sold a few mc in my time and have never allowed anyone to "take it for a test ride". If they have wanted a test ride, I usually say, OK! Let me get it started and you can hop on the back. I'll take you down the road and run it through the gears for you.

Be honest I'd be kind of worried about letting someone ride a bike I'm selling. IF I had insurance on my bike and they had their own insurance and a motorcycle license I would let them.

Keep in mind however if they crash or hurt themselves you will still get sued and it will cost you a lot of money even if you win.

At most I would let someone ride around the block just to get through the gears and make sure all is cool.

Another thing to keep in mind is get a bill of sale and many people will even make the buyer go to a currency exchange with them to change the title. If not and tehy ride it home or ride it before re-registering it and get into a crash, rob a bank, etc guess who's name its in and guess who is responsible? YOU!!!!!
