Default Question about the different types of Motorcycle Licenses?

While reading stuff about how to obtain a motorcycle license, I saw that there is an M1 and M2. My question is are M1 and M2 two different tests? or do you have to get the M1 in order to get the M2? and in order to ride sports bikes, do you need an M1 or M2?

M1 is a license to ride a motorcycle, this is the one you want for a sport bike.

M2 is for mopeds and scooters.

Depending on the state, i guess it would depend on the license. I have a sportsbike license, it was easy. The cruiser license was the same one. I am not sure. But it should just be the basics.

Some places may have a different class license for scooters, i dont know. Or they may actually have different license for cruisers and sportsbikes. What is the state you are asking about?
