i have a 1978 jet ski that starts to idle when the choke is on but quickly dies when i hit the gas?

A JS 440?

Probably needs the carb rebuilt. The fuel pump part of the carb may be shot, or the needle diapraghm may be bad.

Check all the fuel lines also for blockage, as well as the selector, it will sometimes plug.
