How do i catch MAJOR air on a jetski?!?!?

ok well recently we purchased a kawasaki jetski idk what its horsepower is but its not lower than 50 if that says anything lol i once got it up to 50 mph on flat water but anyway i keep on messing up on aproaching a wave or wake and dont catch as much air as i though i would and sometimes i would just go right over it, i approach it at a semi angle and not straight on but dont catch big air and hit the throttle hard a little b4 going into the wake what am i doing wrong?
