I live 8 miles from my office across a bay. I would like to ride across it with a jet ski on a daily basis. I'm just wondering if this is econmically viable.
Can anyone here tell me with some precision how much fuel a jet ski would consume if you go across a salt water bay, placid as a lake, at optimum speed? Thanks. |

Most of them have pretty good fuel capacity - 3.5 gallons or more. At an average of 10 miles to the gallon on a lake, I'd guess 7mpg on the ocean or bay. 16 miles a day without refueling, no problem. Docking and inclement weather are going to be the hardest issues. If gas in your area costs $3 per gallon and you work 20 days per month, you'd be looking at about $200 / month in fuel costs. Do they not ferry in your area?
