Why does a jet ski squirt water out the back?? LOL! This is killing me!?

I wonder if its for buoyancy reasons or just for look. Does it help with balance? Trust me, I aint getting my big booty on one anytime soon, I just see them and wonder....HELP! LOL! Settle this so I can sit and eat a peaceful dinner without JetSkis on my brain! LOL!!
