No it's not odd.
For the many uneductaed people on ***** Answers the enviromentalists and their allies in congress (Pelosi, et al) refused to let people do controlled burns because they wanted to protect the habitats of some endangered species. So all of the dead brush and whatnot built up over time until an external cause, in this case arson, ignited it all causing millions of dollars in damages. All of which could have been stemmed or completly avoided with small control burns.
BTW those endangered species, they're dead now. Thanks environmentalists.
