Several snowmobilers cut across my front lawn close to my house barely missing a spruce tree. I've tried to put up baracades to make them aware, but as soon as I take them down, the snowmobiles cut across again. It's loud, it leaves horrible tracks for others to follow, and my kids will no longer play in the front yard. I hate putting ugly stuff up as baracades, but what else can I do? I wrote the local clubs and no one responded. I called the police and they didn't care (I think the person I spoke to has a snowmobile). I don't have time to stand watch and see who is doing this. A few people are making snowmobiles look bad. Help!

boo** traps of all different types!
neck high fishing line between trees would be interesting, but potentially fatal. killing people is bad. mines would be overkill, and probably illegal. perhaps some landscaping that would make it less than ideal for them to pass through, a few big rocks placed in appropriate places would make it so that it would be easier and safer to go around. ditches and embankments would work too, but might not work in summertime when it comes to lawn work. have fun with it and don't hurt them. |

This same thing happened to my family one time. This is what we did. We have a fairly long driveway and they were coming about 2 feet from the house and my dad was fed up with it. We took three cars a blocked the driveway leaving them just enough room to get to the side of the road. We left the cars like that for about a week and have never had a problem since. This way we did not have to put anything up in the yard that we would regret when we had to mow the lawn.

Get a few white, wooden posts and drive them into the ground. Tie white rope around each post and viola! A hardly dicernable border around your yard. It won't be such an eyesore and the next time a snowmobile tries to cross your property, they will be in for more than they bargained for. You will have to replace and rebuild the structure each time someone tries to cut through your yard, but after a few times people will learn to give your space a wide berth. If this doesn't work for you, a nice picket fence compliments almost any style home. Good luck!
